Alltagstrott

Coming down to earth after our trip is quite hard. Especially our last lodging was something special (an old windmill somewhere in no man's land, not radio, no TV) and resulted in a sort of meditative relaxation. Back in business however absolute chaos. Lots of unfinished documents and a terribly reduced team which is not able to finish things in time.
During our travels I found quite a lot of doors. I don't know why exactly, but I am "collecting" doors. Maybe this is some symbol for my curiosity - I always want to know what there is behind a closed door....

Urlaub!

Holidays! I am nearly packed up and we will have some nice weeks dans la Bretagne (hopefully). I am really looking forward to this trip. It has been 20 years that we were there the last time. Looking forward to the sea - I absolutely love the sea. One of our kids is going to keep the house for us, this time making a little bit more use of the watering can I hope so that the one or other of my plants will survive.

Blumentraum

This is the finished homework I had to do this month for my stitching class. The theme was "flowers" and after having seen a small patch of grass with an abundance of flowers growing wildly this was what came to mind. It was quite a lot of work but much fun to do. It is easier for me to work freely when I have a theme.

Berührender Kurzfilm

Diesen Kurzfilm habe ich in Sarah Lechners neuem Blog gefunden "Tales from beyond the glimpse".

Found this short film in Sarah Lechner's new blog "Tales from beyond the glimpse". If you have a little time (12 min) you should watch it.
The young man very much reminded me of my son; they are of about the same age I think. But I really hope that my son is neither as lonely nor as depressed.

My hubby and me made a short trip on Wednesday. Only several miles away from home we found this valley (Karlstal near Trippstadt) which constantly reminded of Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings) because it was so beautiful and somehow enchanted.

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

What Tarot Card are You?

Wilde Frau

A friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. I made this wild woman for her in order to symbolically give her strength for the future.

Sendepause

Derzeit sind bei uns einige Renovierungsarbeiten fällig. Leider ist auch mein Arbeitszimmer betroffen. Ich bin quasi heimatlos, zumindest, was meine künstlerischen Aktivitäten betrifft.
Ein reines Übungsstück, nichts, was besonders ansprechend wäre!

There is not much to show and tell right now. We are renovating our house a little, and as a matter of fact my studio is in the middle of the action right now. Artistically I am homeless. I could return to the kitchen table, but since all my material is in my studio (covered up in order to avoid staining and dust) this would not be very practical, there are four flights of stairs between my studio and the kitchen.
Thus I am quite glad for the online class in stitching. These small pieces don't use much material and no machine, you can carry them along and work sitting on the couch. The photo above shows my first piece which was just a study in couching and straight stitches.

Stichexploration

As an introduction to free embroidery you have to find out in which way the look and "feeling" of a stitch can be changed and influenced by it's length, orientation and thickness among others. Here I made a stitch exploration with the herringbone stitch. Once you get used to the fact that in this kind of embroidery stitches don't have to be marching on in a row or look alike this really is fun to do.

Lavendel Teebeutel

Before we started on our last trip I sent a handful of lavender tea bags on their way. As a result of this swap I now received a beautiful collection of fragrant bags.

Rote Buchseite

So far I didn't find the time to show a photo from the red page I received for my color book. To refresh everybody's memories: This is a textile book round robin, and my books title is "colors". The last round had us send material to the participants which these had to use, being allowed to add things from their own stash as well. I really hope I will be able to persuade the other participants to do another round!

Stickmanie

It is astonishing what you can do in a weekend when nobody is taking your time. In this case I nearly finished the block with circles. This gives me enough time to go back to lesson 2 and do some stitch exploration.

Once again we were traveling, this time to lake Constance with friends. Although the weather wasn't that good we had a great time. Sunday was best when we listened to an open air rendition of Carmina Burana on the isle of Mainau which was topped by fantastic fireworks.
In my online class with Anne Lange I am slowly approaching free stitching. The number of existing stitches seems to be legion. So far I thought that I knew quite a lot of stitches but here I am continually confronted with new ones. Moreover it proves to be really difficult for me to take a stitch and experiment with it. Somehow the straight rules from my time at school seem to have rubbed off. However it really is great fun to try out what is possible with one single stitch.

Book pages

The short trip to London already lies in the past. What a pity that the nice events always pass so quickly! The weather was incredibly great. Therefore, or perhaps because members of so many different nations influence habits, we nearly thought ourselves to be in the south. Who would have imagined bankers in suits balancing their pints in the street while gossiping...

Romantische Twinchies

I have to show you the twinchies I received in the romantic twinchies swap. Those on the second photo are the ones I sent off.

Neue Seiten

Unser Buch Round Robin ist inzwischen in seiner 2. Runde.

Our fabric book round robin is in the second round. This time we sent material to the participants that had to be used. In the meantime I received the colors black and yellow. (Okay, black is not color, but since one of the participants sent me a white page the last time I wanted to add black, too.) I am very satisfied with the outcome of these pages, they are extremely creative and very expressive.

Trommelwirbel - Drumrolls!

Yesterday was the day: The Hawaii quilt was presented to its new owner. The work is finally done, just one day ahead of time. She really was overjoyed. I am quite satisfied with the finished piece as well.
Normally I don't know how much time goes into a quilt, but this time I can add the hours rather well. There were about 60 hours worth appliqué to be stitched and about 150 hours quilting work. This said it is obvious that the quilt is priceless.
Having finished this quilt I will now hove more time to blog on a regular basis.
